Nominal Semantics for Predicate Logic: Algebras, Substitution, Quantifiers, and Limits

چکیده
We define a model of predicate logic in which every term and predicate, open or closed, has an absolute denotation independently of a valuation of the variables. For each variable a, the domain of the model contains an element JaK which is the denotation of the term a (which is also a variable symbol). Similarly, the algebra interpreting predicates in the model directly interprets open predicates. Because of this models must also incorporate notions of substitution and quantification. These notions are axiomatic, and need not be applied only to sets of syntax. We prove soundness and show how every ‘ordinary’ model (i.e. model based on sets and valuations) can be translated to one of our nominal models, and thus also prove completeness.

Stone duality for first-order logic: a nominal approach to logic and topology
What are variables, and what is universal quantification over a variable? Nominal sets are a notion of ‘sets with names’, and using equational axioms in nominal algebra these names can be given substitution and quantification actions. So we can axiomatise first-order logic as a nominal logical theory. We can then seek a nominal sets representation theorem in which predicates are interpreted as ...
متن کاملOn Kripke-style Semantics for the Provability Logic of Gödel's Proof Predicate with Quantifiers on Proofs
Kripke-style semantics is suggested for the provability logic with quantifiers on proofs corresponding to the standard Gödel proof predicate. It is proved that the set of valid formulas is decidable. The arithmetical completeness is still an open issue.
متن کاملMonadic NM-algebras
In this paper, we introduce and investigate monadic NM-algebras: a variety of NM-algebras equipped with universal quantifiers. Also, we obtain some conditions under which monadic NM-algebras become monadic Boolean algebras. Besides, we show that the variety of monadic NM-algebras faithfully the axioms on quantifiers in monadic predicate NM logic. Furthermore, we discuss relations between monadi...
متن کاملOn Bunched Predicate Logic
We present the logic of bunched implications, BI, in which a multiplicative (or linear) and an additive (or intuitionistic) implication live side-by-side. The propositional version of BI arises from an analysis of the proof-theoretic relationship between conjunction and implication, and may be viewed as a merging of intuitionistic logic and multiplicative, intuitionistic linear logic. The predi...
متن کاملOn the scope of the completeness theorem for first-order predicate logic∗
The problem of completeness of classical first-order predicate logic was formulated, for the first time in precise mathematical terms, in 1928 by Hilbert and Ackermann in [16] and solved positively by Gödel in his Ph.D. thesis one year later [8, 9]. In 1947 Henkin [14, 15] presented an alternative simpler proof that has become standard in logic textbooks. The main advantage of Henkin’s proof is...
